4.10    History of women & development ( WID) to gender & development (GAD)

The facilitators discussed the origen of the consept of gender and its implication for development.this involved looking at the journey of feminism through to women and development aproach right up to gender & development. Facilitators shared the history of development , particularly post world war II and the marshal plan that reconstructed most of westron Europe & Japan. The fffact that the term development  is less then 50 years old explains the evolving nature and vision of development.

Both approaches are necessry  when persuing development in contextof Balochistan aand Pakistan. Women involvement in, benefit from  and  control over  project resources can bbe increaased   through women  spesific activiiities  (WID approach ) and gender spesific approach (GAD approach). Women spesific   activities address the  more practical needs of women (such as education, access to clean water and an increased incom ).such needs can be met in a relatively short-term process involving inputs such as equipment, technical expertised, training, handpumps, clinics,a credit programme, etc. gender spesific programme, etc.gender spesific activitiesaddress more the stratigic interest of the women(such as greater access to resources or a more equell participation in decision making).
